Book Spotlight, Interview & Giveaway: Marigny Street by Annie Rose Welch

Marigny Street
Saving Angels Series #1
Annie Rose Welch

Genre: Contemporary Romance with a
strong element of paranormal

About the Book:
Do you believe in the power of dreams?
Way down south on Marigny Street in the heart of New Orleans, the land of Catholic intercessions, purgatory, and supernatural superstitions, young Evangeline Chenier dreams of a radiant boy who saves her from a storm. She takes the dream seriously – in her family, dreams are sometimes more than dreams. Sometimes they foretell the future. Sometimes they create it.
Years later, Eva is no longer the same wistful girl but a hardened woman who no longer believes in dreams. Losing faith in her gift, she becomes lost in a nightmare of emotion, mourning her son, separating from her husband, and stewing in a dead-end job. And then fate brings her an unlikely surprise: one of the most famous movie stars in the world, Gabriel Roberts.

Caught by something in his eyes, Eva agrees to show him the real Big Easy on his last night in New Orleans—an evening that turns into four dreamy days spent recapturing lost faith and discovering a love neither expected. Realizing Gabriel is the boy from her childhood dream, Eva must leave everything behind—her husband, her family, her history, and the beautiful city she calls home—and gamble it all for the dream that has saved her on MARIGNY STREET.

1    MRP would like to extend a very warm welcome to Annie Rose Welch, author of Marigny Street. Annie, can you tell us who or what most influenced you to become a writer?
This is going to sound kind of strange, but my characters. I fell in love with my characters and their story. After Marigny Street was complete, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

If you were to be left alone on an island, what three books would you take with you?
My Bible, P.S. I Love You, Bid Time Return.

What are your most and least favorite movie genres?
My favorites: Drama, romance, romantic comedies, and just classic comedies. My least favorite: Horror. I used to love them, but now they just scare me!

If you could choose any man for your next book cover, who would he be?
I’m not sure. It’s hard to visualize my characters as anyone but who I see in my thoughts.

When you are on a deadline, what aspect of your ‘regular’ life suffers most?
Family meals. We eat out. A lot.

What advice would you give aspiring authors?
This is so cliché, but never give up!

What advice would you give seasoned writers?
      Please give me some advice?

When reading for pleasure, do you prefer a physical or electronic book?
     Physical.

From the first stroke of a pen (or laptop), how long did it take you get published?
I am self-published, but it took me five years to decide to release Marigny Street.

Did you ever feel like calling it quits?
Yes, but again, going back to my advice. Never give up. I love my characters, my stories, writing, too much to ever stop.

What did you do when you got your first contract?
The day Marigny Street was released, I celebrated!

Thank you so much for joining us today, Annie! We really enjoyed the visit. Good luck and great sales with Marigny Street.

Author Bio:
Born and raised in New Orleans, Annie has a habit of shortening her words and telling long stories. She speaks with a southern flair and cooks with it too. At the tender age of twenty- one, she hitched up her wagons (took her first plane ride) and moved out west to the big shake (California). Her writing career began one sleepless night when she imagined a gorgeous woman and a man with maniacal hair floating above her like lightening bugs falling from the sky. Curious about them, their story, and why they were floating around in her head, she sat down and penned (typed) her first novel, Marigny Street. A dream come true for her, she hasn't stopped writing since. She loves a damn good love story, always has, no matter what the genre. She is particularly moved by imperfect love that in its own unique way is perfect, the notion of love at first sight, soul mates, and things that are generally out of the norm.

When she's not writing she enjoys dabbling in photography and finding new, inspirational music to add to her collection. She currently (still) resides in the big shake (although her southern roots are calling her home) with her husband, daughter, and their two peculiar dogs, Boudreaux and Tabasco (who, call her crazy, bark with an accent).

More Romance Please is happy to present some thoughts shared by author Jennifer DeCuir:

Building Scallop Shores

People have asked me where I got the idea for Scallop Shores, the small town series I write for Crimson Romance. I grew up in a small town. I modeled it after my own hometown. Easy peasy, right? But when I started to think about it, I realized that some of it came from the town itself, but some of it came from cherished memories – of places/businesses that no longer exist.
Where did Logan’s Bakery come from? That actually developed less from my own memories than from talks with my grandparents. My grandfather used to walk down to the bakery for coffee and a donut with his buddies, every weekday morning after he retired. So if Logan’s seems a bit old-fashioned, it is – based on memories that are close to fifty years old now. And I find that pretty cool.
In my newest release, Wynter’s Journey, readers are introduced to The Book Nook. I didn’t even realize I’d based this on a real bookstore until I stopped to think about it. Some of my fondest memories were of spending Friday evenings at the bookstore with my dad, while my mom took my sisters into the grocery store for the weekly shopping trip. I’d spend my precious allowance money on a new Nancy Drew book or one of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books. It was so quiet in there. I’d plop down in a bean bag chair and be half done with the book before I’d even paid for it.
The little library where my character, Bree, is the children’s librarian has been replaced by a much bigger facility that I haven’t been lucky enough to visit…yet.
Gifford’s Grocery, the small town grocery store that’s first mentioned in Drawn to Jonah, is based on one of my first jobs. I worked in the deli and occasionally as a cashier at the local IGA for four years. The owner would sing Boyz II Men ballads to me over the loudspeaker, because he knew how embarrassed it made me. The store has long since closed, the owner retired and living in Florida. Folks no longer have to go two towns over for a real supermarket, as they finally have one of their own.
Do I sit down and draw out a map with each business, house and historic landmark clearly identified? Nope. I just take a stroll down memory lane. I don’t have a clear beginning and ending for the Scallop Shores series. I do have a couple more businesses that I want to go back and revisit in my mind. I love that I get to re-experience cherished memories just by creating the town of my youth. And if I can take readers along on my journey, possibly awakening some of their memories in the process, then that makes it all the better.
Welcome to Scallop Shores, Maine. Take a look around. Stay as long as you’d like. We’re glad you came to visit. J

Much more than a mere mortal, Gabriel has been searching for Lissette and Cassandra for a very long time. They have what he needs, what no one else can give him.
But will they be willing to share?
