Author Interview: A Sweet Deal by Monica Tillery

A Sweet Deal
by Monica Tillery

Publisher: Crimson Romance
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Hilarious and suspensful Lego Book Trailer!

About the Book:
Richard Morgan can’t believe his father is considering a rival candy company’s offer to buy out the family business that he loves. Though the confections division is tiny compared to the family’s other ventures, it’s close to his heart. Maybe too close, since the thought of losing it feels like losing his mother all over again. Convinced it’s the best way to continue the Morgan legacy, his father offers Richard control of the company if he’ll secure the family name with a marriage. After a messy, public divorce, marriage is the last thing Richard wants to consider, but according to his father, it’s the only way.

Yvette Cruz is the beautiful, savvy mergers and acquisitions rep charged with brokering the buyout agreement between her company and Morgan Confectioners, and Richard Morgan is the only thing standing between her and the promotion she desperately wants. She came from nothing and worked her way to the top of her field, so she’s not about to let his refusal to cooperate stop her from getting what she wants.

Corporate rivalry gives way to an unwise attraction when the two meet and spend a night together that ultimately changes their lives forever. Two enemies find love, but a betrayal threatens to tear them apart. Forgiveness and redemption can lead to everything they’ve ever wanted, but some things can’t be forgotten.

Considering the Book Trailer, we at More Romance Please, are on the edge of our seats for the interview with Monica Tillery. Monica, welcome. First question: If you were to be left alone on an island, what three books would you take with you?
My all-time favorite book, World Without End by Ken Follett, Gerald’s Game by Stephen King (though scaring myself might not be the best idea…), and something fun like a book of David Sedaris essays. Can’t I just have a solar-powered Kindle? Three books really isn’t enough.

If you could choose any man for your next book cover, who would he be?
I always create a Pinterest board as I gather inspiration for my books, and my latest hero reminds me of Gerard Butler.

What advice would you give aspiring authors?
Finish your book! It seems like every other person I talk to says that they’ve thought about writing a book when they hear what I do. I say don’t just think about it…do it! Once you finish one, you know you can do it.
What advice would you give seasoned writers?
Stop comparing yourself to everyone else! I’m never more unhappy than when I spend my time obsessing over my sales, Amazon ranking, and other authors’ contracts and deals.

When reading for pleasure, do you prefer a physical or electronic book?
I love having dozens of books available on my Kindle, but I also still read paper and ink books. I don’t really have a preference, but steamier romances are easier to read in public in digital format…

From the first stroke of a pen (or laptop), how long did it take you get published?
Let’s see…I started writing my debut novel, Kiss Me, Katie, in May 2012. It was contracted March 14, 2013 and was released on June 3, 2013. I’ve been very fortunate.

Did you ever feel like calling it quits?
Of course! Writing is HARD, and it can be so disheartening. No matter how discouraged I get, though, I always come back. I can’t stay away.

What did you do when you got your first contract?
My friends are the best in the world. To celebrate the release of my debut novel, they planned an amazing surprise party for me. Fifty of my closest friends and relatives celebrated with dinner, a candy bar, delicious cake, and adorable Kiss Me, Katie-themed decorations. Everybody brought books to donate to a literacy program to top it all off. It was a magical night that I will never forget.

Wow, great friends indeed! Thank you so much for joining us today, Monica! We really enjoyed the insights. Good luck with A Sweet Deal.
